Phase transitions occur everywhere in nature. Matter changes its form depending on external parameters such as the temperature or the pressure. Water, for example, vaporizes into steam when being heated up or solidifies into ice when being cooled down. Besides the well known phases of solids, fluids and gases, other phases can exist, for example plasmas or superfluids. In this lecture, I focus on two very famous examples in modern physics, ultra-cold atomic gases and the super-hot Quark Gluon Plasma.
